So here's an update... One month was not enough! I want to do this challenge justice and also use a lot of the product and in a month, I didn't do that properly. So I've updated the challenge to a new product line every TWO months. So hello September, and hello I'm still loving my Camille Rose Naturals! This month I'll be adding reviews of some of other products I'v been using in the line and also a look at different hair styles I'll try! Like this one! (Lots of curl maker and creme gel used here... And my Kinky Curly Yaki clip ins.

I'm still in the first month of my healthy hair challenge and I'm loving the Camille Rose Naturals hair line. (For infor about the challenge click here. For info about the first line click here). So I can tell you all day how I love the products and blah blah but how about you see what each does to my curls? So I washed my hair and separated pieces to put each product on alone and took pictures! Check it out:

Fresh Curl: Revitalizing Hair Smoother

After product has dried (only the first part )

Focus on that first piece of hair. It frizzy after the wash, looked nice after I placed the product on and kept the nice definition after it dried. Yes shrinkage got me but look how defined my curls are! I liked that when the product dried my hair was still soft and didn't get that crunchy feeling but still looked defined even without any gel or extra product. This "fresh curls" as it's called did just that and still kept with the slight smell of vanilla cake batter (my words not theirs) which is a huge selling point for me. It's a slight blue/green color which I attribute to the avacado but who knows!

Hello second piece of hair. Check or the before, wet and dry looks. The hair milk did minimize shrinkage for me but it didn't moisturize my curls enough for me. The product is light. Like a 4 on my heavy scale. Where as the fresh curls is like a 6 which I love. The hair milk still had my hair soft but you could feel that it wasn't maintaining the moisture like it could. I usually follow the Moisture Milk with the "Curl Maker" and that defines and holds the curls nicely.

So You Want Bigger Hair? NOW!  Kinky Curly Yaki Review

I did it! I wanted a little help in the length department. My last trim hurt my soul, yes my hair is healthy but I'm missing like two inches. But of course instead of just waiting for my hair to grow (like what 6 months?) I decided to get those two inches back plus some of course. I tried KinkyCurlyYaki clip ins 18" 220g. Yay its long, and thick but I like full coverage with minimal leave out and it doesn't quite do it for me.
I followed the instructions on cowashing the hair before you wear it (which you have to do) and also sealed the wefts to minimize shedding.

So the first time I wore the hair, I admit I didn't leave enough out and that resulted in me not having a decent style.... It as cute yes, but I had to twerk it a bit and do some cleaver pinning.  Also yes, I know I need to dye the hair I know it's darker. It'll happen in due time.  But anyway, here's how I pinned it up and had my hair be the bangs. It was cute. The first pic wasn't so great (top right) my hair didn't blend at all. But I'm sure once I dye it and leave more out the hair would be great!

Camille Rose: Month One

So it's the first month of my year long healthy hair challenge. It's where I'm trying a new hair line each month and only that line along with protective styling and care to improve the health of my hair.

So today I started using Camille Rose Naturals and can I say it smells like heaven? Like I can't stop inhaling to sniff my hair. Tonight I washed my hair and used the deep conditioner. Even though it's cocoa mango, the deep conditioner smells like vanilla cake... and it even has the consistency of cake batter. I love it just for that. (Y'all know I like heavy products)

Here's my hair before using anything on it. We will use this as the before photos for the challenge.
Picture
Here's the deep conditioner from heaven. (Or at least the bakery because it smells edible)... its feels super thick and heavy but when it gets on your hair it feels nice and light. The ingredient list is beautiful: from vitamin e, to peppermint oil, shea butter, coconut oil, hemp seed and many other awesome ingredients. With all that in a jar how can it not be wonderful? I've read other Naturals get hooked after one week.... maybe I shouldn't have tried this line first? But I digress....

I washed my hair and slicked it back into a low pony and tied it up for the night... Yeah I left the deep conditioner in, I know I know I'm supposed to be taking better care of my hair, it's the first month, give me a break! Lol
Picture
So the next day I used the hair milk and their version of the gel and it was a continued experience of heaven. Especially for my nose... The Curl Love Moisture Milk continued the yummy smell party with a delicious aroma of what I associate with cake milk (but that just could be due to my desire be eating cake.) It's a good silky spread that did last a while. I used it and the next day my hair still appeared moisturized which is amazing as that next happens. It could also be that I coated my hair in the "Curl Maker" gel which is also amazing. It's very goowy like a melted marshmallow (I say this as it's one of the ingredients).

So I've recently found myself with a little extra time on my hands (what?!? How? I need some too) I know right? But that's another story. But I'm always buying buying buying hair products, but with all the mixing and build up, how do you really know which one is working for your hair? Which line (if any) is perfect for you?

Well, that's what I'm going to figure out! Over the next year I'm going to try a new product line each month and only that line. I'll look at my hair's moisture level, curl pattern and overall look to see which products and lines I love and which ones maybe aren't for my 4a hair. I'll try my three main styles (wash n go, high bun and twist outs) with each line and maybe a few other styles too (if I'm not lazy. I'll be washing my hair with the line weekly and ensuring to keep it moisuturized by using a hair milk or something of the sort every other day and spraying it with water daily. Let the games begin!

TGIN: A Product Review

I got these two items after seeing a Instagram post about how amazing they made one girl's wash n go. I have to say I did not fall in love with them. I tried them on my hair (4a/4b) and my middle daughters hair (4c). The girl in the video on Instagram had 4c hair so I was really excited to try something on her hair that would be heavy enough (you know I love heavy hair products lol).

I used both the products together after washing/conditioning on wet hair and maybe maybe too much of the Butter Cream because it just sat on top of the hair. No matter how much brushing, I still saw a little white. Also I felt like one of these was flakey. Idk if it was the Curl Bomb gel but her edges the next day looked a little harsh and rewetting didn't help much it just looked more white until I rinsed it all out. But I will say the rest of her hair still felt moisturized even the day after which is rare when I do her hair so I did like the products for that.

I'm almost out of the daily moisturizer but I still have a lot of the gel left so I will keep using them and update the post as my opinions change (if they do)

Picture
This is her bun look using the products. To smooth her edges I did tie them down with a scarf until they dried. Have you tried them? What do you think?

The air dry craze: a product review

3/29/2017

By: Aviyah

So while at America's Beauty Show I kept hearing about products to air dry hair. My thought aren't all natural hair products to be used for air drying? I got the Pureology Hudrate Trio. I don't think it's technically for curly hair but I'm told it works:
Picture
But I tried it out! I washed my hair and conditioned it with the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo really lathered with just a little and the conditioner had a nice minty feel to it. (I love love love the mint in my conditioners)
The "hydrate" air dry crime felt very very light when I put it on, unlike many other wash and go products. So how did it work?
Picture
Its winter so I don't do the traditional wash n go, I wash, bun, sleep and go, meaning I put my hair in a top bun after I apply the product. No brushing no combing, just hands. This way it also stretches the bottom for better length retention. In the morning I take down the bun and hopefully my hair is still a little damp, add more product shake and go.
Once it dried, here's the final look:
Picture
My hair feels bouncy but and free but not as conditioned as I like. (I really like heavy products). I think this would be really good for type 3 curly hair but I don't hate it.

Hair Review: Addictive Glam

1/19/2017

I got the 360 frontal and two bundles (12 & 14) body wave from Addictive Glam. I got it during the Black Friday sale so it was less than $200 total.
Picture
You have to wash the hair before you wear it, it feels like a film is over the hair and lacks that nice new hair feel when you unpack it.
Picture
I knew I was making a wig out of the hair so I didn't wash it first but decided to make the wig and highlight it, then wash the hair after.
Picture
After I washed the hair it was nice and soft! We shall see how long it lasts.

Product Review: Kandy Kurls

8/13/2016

It's my  second month having Curl Kit, where each month they send you products to try for naturally curly girls... This  month was a takeover meaning one company is represented in the Curl Kit.

This month it was Kandy Kurls, a line I had not heard about until I got the Curl Kit...  The line is M=made from 100% Organic ingredients (YAY!!!!) I LOVE IT! At least on my first try I do! I co-washed my hair with the Peppermint Co-Wash  followed by the hair mask for five minutes.

I love how to co-wash left my hair still feeling smooth and moisturized. It is a very thick product but so is the Hair Mask. I like my products thick even if that means I use a bit more of them.

The hair mask had a heavenly smell of cocoa butter but better. I can't quite name the smell but it was soft and amazing.  There is an option to leave it on and cover your hair with a plastic cap for deeper penetration but I was in the shower so I opted for the 5 minute leave in then rinse out.

Then I used the Leave In Conditioner. This is what I absolutely loved! It smelled like a delicious blend of fruit but not too loud, very subtle. It is slightly heavy but doesn't make your hair feel gross or hair when it dries.
Picture
Here is my hair after washing and rinsing the hair mask out... No product is on my hair.... yet.
Picture
Here is my hair with the leave in conditioner about 50% dry at the time... It defines my curls!
I didn't detangle or comb the product through my hair (not going anywhere so I just let it air dry). I love that the leave in conditioner makes my hair defined... My curl pattern POP! and my hair feel moisturized. It doesn't just feel like something is laying on top of my hair like some other hair milks or leave in conditioners sometimes do.
Here is the final result once my hair was completely dry.
